Where do the winter winds go
I want to follow you there
You thought that you could hide
On the snowflakes in the air
You thought that you could run away
And dance among the light
Sketched up in shades of white
A place where all is fair
A place where all is right.
You thought you could take to the wind
And leave a surgeon's scar
This delusion I must rescind
I tell you it is far
Far from the clean break you thought it would be
It's a mistake
That you’ve left me
Because you are distant
And now you are free
As I am with tears in my eyes
And a body in the ground.
Left wondering why
You make not a sound
I'd take me to the winter wind to be a sprite like you
Live as we wanted to
Free and fresh and new
To see the world renew
With our passing every year
Until the end of all
To sleep sleep without fear
Living on the winter's call
To have you ever near.
So tell me where the winter winds go
I’d like to see you there
Among the clouds the light the snow
The bite upon the air.
Is it a place that will welcome me
I’d like to see it--where
You are.
Don’t say that it’s six feet beneath my own.
