PROTECTOR

When the hydra rears her hideous head
Faces dissolving in their caustic slime
When her eyes cause my heart to freeze
Wallowing in their membrane, time
Will stop before I’m on my knees
And I know you’ll burn her to ash

When the wolves from their dens emerge
The sun in their eyes and in the pit of their chest
As smothered by darkness wriggle to light
Sucking out spirits, blood at best
They’ll fall before I have to fight
And I know you’ll turn them to ash

When the Tsar of the sea awakes in rage
With the might of the waters in his hand
With a face cut from fury hungry to feed
Conjuring up a cyclone of sand
He’ll stop before he hears me plead
And I know you’ll burn him to ash

When the world caves in and sets alight
The tidal wave of anarchy breaks
And humans become beasts once more
And heads grow out of wooden stakes
It’ll stop before I hit the floor
And I know you’ll burn them to ash

And when you face whatever swelling terror
That matches your defense in power
At your side I will remain
Hoping in that fateful hour
I’ll stop them ‘fore they cause you pain

And you’ll know I’ve burnt them to ash
